Royal Ascot 2019
Ascot Racecourse, located approximately six miles from Windsor Castle, is the home to the Royal Ascot. Proceedings get underway at the prestigious Royal Meeting on Tuesday 18th June in 2019. The event lasts five days and reaches its climax on Saturday 22nd June. A day to look out for is Ascot Ladies Day, which this year is scheduled for Thursday 20th June. Please note that all Royal Ascot 2019 dates are provisional.

The racecourse stages twenty-six days of racing over the course of the year, with 18 Flat meetings held between the months of May and October. It also stages important jump racing throughout the winter months. The Royal Ascot, held in June, is the major draw.

The Royal Ascot is one of Europe's most famous race meetings dating back to 1711 and it's founder Queen Anne. The Royal Ascot races are attended by HM Elizabeth II along with members of the British Royal Family arriving each day in a horse-drawn carriage. The Royal procession takes place at the start of each race day along with the raising of the Queen's Royal Standard. As you can imagine, Royal Ascot is a major event in the British social calendar, with the associated and attentive press coverage of attendees outfits and especially the ladies hats. Coverage of actual races pale in comparison.

There are three enclosures attended by guests on Royal Ascot week. The Royal Enclosure is the most coveted by guests. Access is highly restricted and badges must be applied for well in advance. First-time applicants apply to the Royal Enclosure Office and gain membership from someone who has attended the enclosure for at least four years. For existing badgeholders, an invitation is sent out by Her Majesty's Representative to request badges. The badgeholder's name is written onto the badge and can be used only by that person; the colours of the badges vary each day for one-day applicants. Once in, you have the option of fine dining and hospitality, and a selection of bars. As you would expect, a dress code is strictly enforced. Women must wear a day dress with a hat and rules applying to the length and style of the dress. Absolutely no bare midriffs or shoulders. A black or grey morning dress with top hat is required for men.

Over 300,000 people make the annual visit to the small town of Ascot, Berkshire, during Royal Ascot week, making it the best-attended race meeting in Europe. It is also a major betting opportunity for wagerers in the UK and beyond who can bet online with the UK's bookmakers. There are sixteen group races over five days, with at least one Group One race event on each day. The Gold Cup is on Ladies' Day on the Thursday.
